English Language Learning (ELL)

Dates, times, and location information

Summer Learning ELL courses are designed for Grade 8 - 11 secondary students learning English as a second language at levels 1-3 (beginning to consolidating) who are looking to practice and build upon their English reading, writing and oral language skills.

Students in this course must be prepared to participate in a variety of listening, speaking, reading and writing activities. Speaking and social interactions are emphasized. Students will be introduced to the academic language expected at the secondary school level. There will be a focus on developing the skills and confidence needed for proficiency in the English language.

A student's final report card will indicate 'Proficient' or 'Developing.' This course is intended to increase skills, and is not for academic credit. Summer Learning teachers and administrators will not make placement recommendations to home schools.
